How to make Apple Crumble Cake

Ingredients for Apple Crumble Cake

    1. Butter a 7×11-inch (or 9×9-inch) baking dish, and preheat the oven to 350 F.

    2. Peel, seed, and dice the apples. Place them in a bowl and toss them with lemon juice to prevent browning.

    3. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

    4. Using a hand-held or stand mixer, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes). Remember to scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl a couple of times.

    5. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

    6. Add half of the dry ingredients and mix just until combined.

    7. Mix in half of the sour cream and mix until just combined.

    8. Repeat with the remaining half of the dry ingredients and sour cream. Don’t overmix.

    9. Gently fold in the diced apples and pour the mixture into the baking dish. Smooth the mixture evenly.

    10. Make the crumble topping: in a medium-sized bowl combine the brown sugar, flour, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Using a pastry cutter or two knives, cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles sand.

    11. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly on top and bake for 50-60 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
