  • All-purpose flour
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Butter
  • Granulated sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Eggs
  • Powdered sugar

How to Make Chewy Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Ingredients for Chewy Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

    1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

    2. Using a hand-held or stand mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until crumbly.

    3. Add the vanilla extract and the eggs, one at a time, just until combined.

    4. On low speed, mix in the dry ingredients until well combined.

    5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour.

    6. Preheat the oven to 350 F and cover a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the powdered sugar in a shallow bowl.

    7. Roll about one tbsp of dough into a ball and roll into the powdered sugar until fully covered. Repeat with the rest of the dough.

    8. Place the cookies on the baking sheet leaving about 2 inches between each cookie and bake for 10-15 mins or until they have spread and crackled. You will need to bake the cookies in batches.

    9. Let them cool down on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Transfer to a cooling rack to cool down completely.

Can I Freeze Chocolate Crinkle Cookie Dough?

Yes, you can. You can roll the dough into balls, then place them on a baking sheet in the freezer until frozen. Store in a freezer bag for up to 3 months. When ready to bake, let them thaw in the refrigerator overnight, roll in powdered sugar, and bake as directed.

What if I Don’t Have Powdered Sugar?

  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • ⅔ cup powdered sugar
