Nothing says TexMex like a taco pie! It’s the perfect marriage between Mexican and American cuisines.
Using refrigerated crescent rolls as a crust makes it very easy to put together.
A Frito layer gives it crunch, while taco seasoning gives the meat filling the perfect amount of spice.
Finish the dish with your favorite taco toppings and surprise your family on your next Taco Tuesday!
Ingredients for Frito and Ground Beef Taco Pie
- Refrigerated crescent rolls are used as the base for the pie.
- Ground beef is the protein of choice, but you can use ground chicken or turkey for a healthier pie option.
- Onion and garlic for depth of flavor. Chop the onion finely and mince the garlic finely as well.
- Taco seasoning for that perfect TexMex flavor.
- Frito corn chips for a crunchy layer, as a crunchy taco shell would.
- Sour cream to balance the meaty filling.
- Banana peppers and sliced black olives as toppings (you can add more of your favorite toppings like jalapeno slices)
- Mexican cheese blend or your favorite cheese (choose one that melts well).
How to Make Frito and Ground Beef Taco Pie
1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.
2. Cook the ground beef with the onions and garlic in a large skillet over medium-high heat until brown and fully cooked, about 5 minutes.
3. Mix in the taco seasoning and ⅓ cup of water. Cook for 1-2 minutes until thickened. Set aside.
4. Separate the crescent roll triangles and place them in the baking dish with the pointy tips meeting in the center. Using your finger, press the dough into the dish to cover the bottom. If you have gaps, you can cut the excess that hangs from the edge of the pie dish and use it to fill the gaps.
5. Poke the dough with a fork and bake for 5 minutes.
6. Remove the pie dish from the oven and sprinkle the Fritos evenly over the crust.
7. Spoon the meat filling over the Fritos.
8. Spread the sour cream evenly over the meat filling using a small spatula or the back of a spoon.
9. Add the chopped banana peppers and sliced olives.
10. Sprinkle the cheese evenly on top and bake for 20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and fully cooked. Let the pie stand for 10 minutes before cutting. Top with your favorite taco toppings like chopped tomatoes, lettuce, or avocado.
