  • Unsalted butter
  • Vanilla extract
  • Salt

How to Make Sweet Potato Casserole

Ingredients for Sweet Potato Casserole

    1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.

    2. Cook the sweet potatoes in a pot of boiling water until tender, about 10 mins. Drain, place in a bowl, and mash with a fork or potato masher.

    3. Whisk in the sugar, milk, butter, vanilla extract, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth.

    4. Spoon into a 9×13-inch baking dish.

    5. Make the topping: in a medium-sized bowl, combine the brown sugar and flour. Using a pastry cutter or two knives, cut the butter into the mixture until it looks like coarse sand. Stir in the pecans, and sprinkle evenly over the sweet potato mixture.

    6. Bake for 30 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.

Can I Freeze Sweet Potato Casserole?

Yes, you can freeze this casserole. Bake it without the topping, let it cool down completely, wrap it twice with plastic wrap and once with foil, and freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to serve, let it thaw out completely, sprinkle the topping, and bake as directed.

  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup milk
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • ½ tsp salt

For the topping:

  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup pecans, chopped
