How to Make Taco Braid
1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef with the onions and garlic until the meat is no longer pink.
2. Mix in the water, taco seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer for 5 minutes or until almost no liquid is left on the skillet.
3. Unroll the pizza dough onto a piece of parchment paper and make slices 1 ½ inches thick and 3 inches long along bothe long sides of the dough, leaving the center intact.
4. Spoon the ground beef onto the center of the dough, leaving one inch on the top and one on the bottom.
5. Top the ground beef with the chopped tomatoes.
6. Sprinkle ¾ cup of the Mexican cheese blend over the tomatoes.
7. Starting at one end of the braid, fold the inch left on the top over the meat, wrap the first two slices of dough to secure this fold. Keep braiding down until you reach the bottom. Fold the bottom inch up and use the last two slices of dough to secure this end.
8. Brush the entire braid with melted butter.
9. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of cheese evenly on top, and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Can I Freeze Taco Braid?
Absolutely! You can freeze the whole braid, or individual portions for a quick snack. Let the braid cool down completely on the baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in the freezer and wait for the braid (whole or sliced) to be almost solid. Remove the baking sheet from the freezer and place the braid in a freezer bag. If freezing individual portions, wrap each slice in parchment paper and place in a freezer bag. Freeze for up to 4 months.
