I personally believe that breading is the most crucial part of cooking deep-fried pickles, as they need to be crispy on the top. Just follow this recipe for the best way to bread your pickles. All you have to do is stick to these easy steps to achieve the most delicious fried pickles you’ll ever have.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- Pickle spears. It’s simpler and faster than using rounds. Using rounds is also recommended.
- All-purpose flour. To help the egg and bread crumbs stick to the pickles
- Eggs To help hold together the bread crumbs to the spears
- Panko bread crumbs Very important. They make the crispiest breading. I personally think that they are way better than regular breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Garlic and onion salt to give flavor to the breading
- Ranch dressing for serving or a sauce that you like.
How To Make Fried Pickles?
1. If the spears are too thick, cut them in half. On your counter, put the flour in one shallow dish, the beaten eggs in another, and the panko bread crumbs in another one.
2. To season the flour, use salt, garlic, pepper and onion powder. Completely coat the pickle spears in the flour, getting rid of any excess. After that, dip them completely into the beaten eggs, and for last , cover them equally with the panko bread crumbs.
3. To harden the breading a little and avoid it falling while frying them, let them rest for 5 to 10 minutes.
4. Fry the pickles in batches until they turn golden brown in a medium-sized frying pan over medium-high heat. Move to a plate lined with a paper towel to get rid of any excess oil and then serve with a dipping sauce of your liking.

Tips For Crispy Pickles:
- Before breading the pickle spears, pat them dry so the breading can stick to them.
- Get rid of any excess flour from the spears. We Want the coat to be thin.
- Before dipping the spears into the bread crumbs, make sure they are fully covered with eggs, it helps the crumbs stick to the spears.
- For more crispness, use Panko bread crumbs instead of regular bread crumbs. I highly recommend.
- Before frying the pickles, let them rest for 5 to 10 minutes In order for the breading to harden a little and not fall off into the frying pan.
Before placing the pickles into the frying pan, you want to make sure the oil is hot, if it’s not the pickles will not come out crispy but soggy. You can test it by throwing a little piece of breading into the oil and If it starts sizzling then you know it’s good to go.
Freeze Fried Pickles?
Of course it’s possible, place them on a cooking sheet in a single layer and into the freezer until they are hard. Put them then in a freezer bag or airtight container. They can be freezed for up to 3 months.
Can You Reheat Fried Pickles?
Absolutely ! You can reheat them in the toaster oven, or in a frying pan using a little bit of oil. Don’t forget to let the oil get hot before placing the pickles into the frying pan.

Turn the heat on medium and heat up your oil, put your spears to fry until they start to brown.
