This has got to be my favorite meal of all time. Shrimp tacos are fresh, light, hearty, and zesty. The best part of the meal is the garlic cilantro lime sauce, which you can use to dress the cabbage and drizzle over the finished tacos. Lime juice, cotija cheese, pickled red onions, and avocado finish this absolutely perfect dish!
Ingredients for Shrimp Tacos with Cilantro Lime Slaw
- Olive oil
- Green onions
- Cilantro
- Garlic
- Lime juice
- Greek yogurt
- Jalapeno pepper
- Shrimp
- Chili powder
- Ground cumin
- Dry minced onion
- Salt and pepper
- Parsley flakes
- Green cabbage
- Corn tortillas
- Cotija cheese
- Avocado
- Red onion
How to Make Shrimp Tacos with Cilantro Lime Slaw
1. Cilantro Lime Sauce: combine the olive oil, green onions, cilantro leaves, minced garlic, lime juice, salt, pepper, Greek yogurt, and jalapeno pepper in the bowl of your food processor or blender. Pulse until smooth (as smooth as you can). If you feel it’s too thick, add a bit of water.
2. Cook the shrimp: season the shrimp with minced garlic, chili powder, ground cumin, parsley flakes, salt, pepper, dry minced onion, and olive oil. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook the shrimp for 2 minutes on each side. Set aside.
3. Make the slaw: save some of the sauce for drizzling over the tacos, and mix the rest with the shredded cabbage. Set aside.
4. Assemble the tacos: with mashed avocado, slaw, cooked shrimp, red onion, and Cotija cheese. Serve with lime wedges and extra sauce.

How to Store Shrimp Tacos
If you wish to make these tacos ahead of time, we recommend storing the cooked shrimp, slaw, pickled onions, and sauce in separate airtight containers in the fridge the day before. You can reheat the shrimp in a pan or microwave.
You can also store the uncooked marinated shrimp in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before making the tacos.
What to Serve with Shrimp Tacos
These tacos can be served with refried beans and Mexican rice. As a topping, you can add sliced jalapenos, fresh cilantro leaves, pickled red onions, hot sauce, and guacamole.

- ¼ tsp salt (or to taste)
