How to Make the Softest Cinnamon Rolls Recipe
1. Pour the warm milk into the bowl of your mixer. Sprinkle the sugar and yeast over the milk and let stand until foamy. This will indicate your yeast is active.
2. Add the egg, egg yolk, and melted butter, and mix on medium speed, until well combined.
3. Using a wooden spoon, stir in the flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
4. Attack the dough hook on your mixer, and knead the dough on medium speed for about 8 minutes until the dough is formed into a slightly sticky ball. If you feel your dough is very sticky, add a couple of tablespoons of flour, but don’t overdo it. If the dough is too tough, the rolls won’t turn out as soft.
5. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap and a kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place (like your turned-off microwave) for 1 ½ hours or until doubled in size.
6. Once the dough has doubled in size, turn it over onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out into a 14×9-inch rectangle.
7. Mix the brown sugar with the cinnamon. Spread the rectangle (minus a one-inch border on the long sides) with the softened butter, and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar evenly on top.
8. Starting on one of the long sides, roll the dough as tightly as you can into a log.
9. Cut the log into 12 slices. I start by cutting it down the middle, then each half into the middle again, then each forth into 3 equal slices.
10. Place the slices cut-side down in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, cover with plastic wrap and let them rise in a warm place for about 30 mins or until doubled in size.
11. Preheat the oven to 350 F and bake for 20-25 minutes or until slightly golden on top.
12. Make the glaze: using a hand-held or stand mixer, combine the softened cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
13. Spread the glaze over the warm rolls and enjoy!
Do I Need to Use Bread Flour?
Bread flour has a higher protein content. This means that when the dough is kneaded, more gluten develops than in softer-flour doughs. High gluten-content doughs produce softer baked products that have good structure. However, all-purpose flour is a good substitute if you don’t have bread flour.
How to Store Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Frosting
Any baked goods with cream cheese frosting has to be refrigerated. Two hours is the limit to leave cream cheese frosting at room temperature. So, to store these cinnamon rolls, place them in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
Can I Freeze Cinnamon Rolls Recipe?
Yes, and I think it’s a great idea to make the cinnamon rolls, place them in a disposable foil baking pan, cover with two layers of plastic wrap and one of foil, and freeze for up to 3 months. This way, whenever the cravings strike, all you have to do is thaw and bake!
