Candy carrots are a classic dish. Some cook it with lemon juice or honey, but i prefer to cook it with light brown sugar , spices, and butter. You can also add cayenne pepper, ginger, chili pepper to make your own candy carrots.

Therefore, i go to my local market and buy fresh carrots that i turn into candied carrots at least one a week. It can be cooked quickly for dinner or a party

Cooked carrots are sweeter than raw ones, not just because we add light brown sugar . While the carrots are simmering in water, then with butter, the carrots unleash their natural sweetness.

You can add honey if they are not sweet enough for you.

HOW DO YOU MAKE RAW CARROTS TASTE BETTER?

    1. Into a skillet, add Water and sliced carrots. Cook for 8-10 min. Dont turn off the heat.

    2. Drain the water, and return the skillet with the carrots on the stove.

    3. Add Butter, salt, brown sugar and pepper. Mix well. Cook for 2-3 min

    4. Turn off the heat when the brown sugar and butter mix thickens and carrots are covered with a glaze.

HOW DO YOU MAKE RAW CARROTS TASTE BETTER?

    5. Add fresh chopped parsley. Stir to combine.

PREPARATION TIPS TO MAKE CANDIED CARROTS;

    1. Add ½ – 1 teaspoon of cornstarch if you want a thicker glaze.

    2. Try to add grated ginger, chili pepper, or a dash of nutmeg to your candy carrots.

HOW DO YOU THICKEN GLAZED CARROTS?

You can add 1 teaspoon of cornstarch to thicken it, If your glaze is a little runny.

You can reheat them on the stove. Transfer them to the skillet and reheat on medium heat. Serve immediately.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound carrots;
  • 1 cup of water;
  • 2 tablespoons butter;
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar;
  • ¼ teaspoon salt;
  • ⅛ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper;
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped.

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice 1 pound carrots into ½-inch pieces (1.2 cm) .
  2. Add 1 cup of water and sliced carrots to a large skillet. Simmer for 10 minutes or until carrots are tender. Then, remove the skillet from the stove. Drain water.
  3. Return skillet with sliced carrots to medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons butter, 3 tabllespoons brown sugar, ¼ teaspoon salt, and ⅛ teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper. Mix to combine. Simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally. When the mixture of melted butter and brown sugar becomes thicker like a glaze, turn off the heat.
  4. Add the chopped parsley. Stir. Serve with your favorite dip or as a side dish.
