It is no secret that onion rings are a very common side dish in many countries around the world, and it comes as no surprise due to how flavorful and amazing they taste.

Ingredients For Homemade Onion Rings

Sweet onions are best when it comes to these rings in my opinion, you can use the Vidalia brand, or any other kind of sweet onion, to give you that balanced taste.

  • All-purpose flour
  • Onion powder
  • Vidalia onions

  • Salt
  • Garlic powder
  • Shredded Parmesan

How To Make The Best Onion Rings

Prep your onions. Slice the ends off, and cut ¼ inch rounds, then pull the rings apart.

  1. Coat the onion rings – Crack your egg in a bowl and put your flour into another. Mix your parmesan, seasoning, and breadcrumbs in a separate bowl. Place your onion ring into the flour, tap off any extra, and submerge in your egg bowl until covered. Allow it to drip off before transferring it to your breadcrumb mix to cover. Lay your rings on a baking pan covered in wax paper of on a wire rack. Then top with cooking spray.
  1. Fry them up – Grease your air fryer basket an olive oil mister (avoid using cooking spray as it tends to ruin your basket). Cook your onion ring in batches for 6 to 8 minutes at 375 F. Repeat for the rest until done.

Tips for success

  • For the perfect ring size, use 2 small onions instead of big one.
  • the sweet kind of onions such as Vidalia for the ultimate taste.
  • Spend extra time on making sure your onions are well covered. Your breadcrumbs will not stick to any flour that is not coated in egg.
  • Don’t use the same fork for all the coatings of breadcrumbs, flour, and eggs. This makes it simple and keeps your fingers clean.
  • Panko breadcrumbs give you the perfect crunch all the time without fail.
  • I highly recommend adding the parmesan. It gives a delicious finish to your onion rings.

Storing & reheating

You can keep any remaining onion rings for 2 to 3 days in your fridge. Place them back in your air fryer to reheat for 3 to 4 minutes at 350 F just enough to get that crunch back.
